BTS: Engagement Shoot In The Mission

Here are some behind the scenes shots from a recent engagement shoot in The Mission District in San Francisco.  Since we have so many great locations here in Sonoma County I only occasionally get down to the city for a shoot.  I really enjoyed the change of scenery.  The welcome challenge of shooting in many diverse locations with a wide variety of people helps keeps me on my toes!

Check out these images from a recent boudoir shoot at a country home near Healdsburg, California.

This location was perfect for a boudoir shoot.  We were able to shoot indoors, while still getting some of the classic scenery that Sonoma County is known for.

BTS: On The Farm With A Local Petaluma Girl

Here are a few behind the scenes snapshots of a recent shoot with a local Petaluma girl. We shot on one of the many picturesque horse farms we have in the Petaluma area, and we were so grateful to Denis and Bridget for allowing us to use their space.  We can’t wait to shoot there again.

Our little model’s wardrobe was done by Michelle and Cristina of Ooh La Loft.

Boudoir At The Beach

I’ve been really surprised by the popularity of boudoir photography over the last couple years.  I shoot an artistic style of boudoir, often on location, that is really different than your common pin-up style.  The meaning of the word “boudoir” refers to a woman’s private bedroom, and we’ll sometimes shoot there, but more and more I find that my clients are really attracted to the great scenic locations I find.  I can’t tell you how many times I meet a prospective client for a consultation who is all ready to shoot in the bedroom until she sees my portfolio of distinctive locations.  No location is more popular than a misty secluded beach.

Aqus Community Launch Party Portraits

I am so happy that I was able to contribute to the wildly successful Aqus Community Launch Party at Lydia’s Sunflower Center in Petaluma a couple weeks ago. I really enjoyed meeting some new friends and giving out some free portraits. The event has already started to pay off for my business. I was also able to raise some money for The Petaluma Art Center as well. A big thanks to Kjerstin on placing the winning silent auction bid!

Southern California Wedding

A few weeks ago I shot a wedding in the Southern California town of Corona.  My favorite images by far were the pre-wedding portraits with the bride and groom.  Partly because I was able to utilize the local desert scenery that is so different than what I have here in Sonoma County.  I loved that the couple was so adventurous and ventured out into the scrub for some very earthy and natural images.  You’d never know we were only a few steps from the green on hole 17!

California Scenic Maternity Portraits

I really try my hardest to give my clients a truly personalized shoot that includes a great location, an unforgettable experience, and ultimately top quality pictures.  That means carefully planning a shoot around each client’s desires.  A recent maternity shoot in San Diego was no exception but it was a welcome challenge.  Planning a shoot from a distance is usually no problem, but this time she wanted to shoot at a location I had never been to.  So I did my best to be flexible to what she wanted, and in the end, we got some intimate portraits of the parents-to-be.  Although, I had to work some magic to keep other photographers from being in the background.

Last week I shared some behind the scenes snapshots from this maternity portrait session in San Diego.  Here are some of the final retouched images from the shoot.

New Images from Nude Yoga Project

Here are a few of the latest images to come from my project “Digambara: The Skyclad Path.”  This project is a collaboration with LeVar Carter and it features his nude yoga performances at symbolic locations around Northern California.  We traveled over half the state to shoot at places like the Sonoma County beaches and old-growth Redwood groves, the Sierra Nevada mountains, Lake Tahoe, the desert, and even in San Francisco.  We were looking for locations that symbolized ideas surrounding fire, air, water, ether, and the city.  Only in a place as diverse as California can you find all of those landscapes within a few hours of each other.

These are just the first few images that I have published from the project and I expect to include around a hundred more.  So keep checking my website for more.

BTS: Maternity Portraits and Baby Shower in San Diego

Last weekend I was in Southern California to photograph a baby shower and to do some maternity portraits.  When I think of San Diego I think about perfect weather.  Like sunny and 72 with just the perfect amount of humidity coming off the ocean.  I guess I was wrong.  It rained the entire day of the baby shower forcing it indoors.  Being flexible is critical as a photographer and I am always prepared to adjust for bad weather.  I’m working on the final edit of the pictures right now, and you’d never know that it was pouring cats and dogs outside.

The next day the weather was beautiful and we went to Coronado Beach to do some maternity and couples portraits.  Walking along the beach and around the Del Coronado Hotel the light couldn’t have been more perfect.  She had chosen the location, and I see why, because the place was crawling with other photographers!

BTS: Boudoir Shoot At Apartment In Concord

Here are a few behind the scenes shots from a recent boudoir shoot at a client’s apartment in Concord, California.  I’m working on the images right now, and they’re turning out great.   It just goes to show you that even the most non-descript apartment can yield some elegant images.  Myself and a professional make-up artist and hair stylist we all there to make her feel like she was on a glamourous set while still in the comfort of her own home.

Boudoir At Home In Novato

Here are some images from a recent Boudoir shoot at a client’s home in Novato.  The shoot lasted just over an hour and we shot a few different outfits in various locations around the house.  You would never be able to tell but there were a couple of little dogs running around while we shot.  They really wanted to be in the pictures too!
