BTS: Engagement Shoot In The Mission

Here are some behind the scenes shots from a recent engagement shoot in The Mission District in San Francisco.  Since we have so many great locations here in Sonoma County I only occasionally get down to the city for a shoot.  I really enjoyed the change of scenery.  The welcome challenge of shooting in many diverse locations with a wide variety of people helps keeps me on my toes!

BTS: On The Farm With A Local Petaluma Girl

Here are a few behind the scenes snapshots of a recent shoot with a local Petaluma girl. We shot on one of the many picturesque horse farms we have in the Petaluma area, and we were so grateful to Denis and Bridget for allowing us to use their space.  We can’t wait to shoot there again.

Our little model’s wardrobe was done by Michelle and Cristina of Ooh La Loft.

BTS: Maternity Portraits and Baby Shower in San Diego

Last weekend I was in Southern California to photograph a baby shower and to do some maternity portraits.  When I think of San Diego I think about perfect weather.  Like sunny and 72 with just the perfect amount of humidity coming off the ocean.  I guess I was wrong.  It rained the entire day of the baby shower forcing it indoors.  Being flexible is critical as a photographer and I am always prepared to adjust for bad weather.  I’m working on the final edit of the pictures right now, and you’d never know that it was pouring cats and dogs outside.

The next day the weather was beautiful and we went to Coronado Beach to do some maternity and couples portraits.  Walking along the beach and around the Del Coronado Hotel the light couldn’t have been more perfect.  She had chosen the location, and I see why, because the place was crawling with other photographers!

BTS: Boudoir Shoot At Apartment In Concord

Here are a few behind the scenes shots from a recent boudoir shoot at a client’s apartment in Concord, California.  I’m working on the images right now, and they’re turning out great.   It just goes to show you that even the most non-descript apartment can yield some elegant images.  Myself and a professional make-up artist and hair stylist we all there to make her feel like she was on a glamourous set while still in the comfort of her own home.

BTS: Making of Digambara

Last week I was traveling Northern California working on what will hopefully become my next book.  The project is called Digambara: The Skyclad Path, and it is a collaboration with my good friend LeVar Carter.  The photographs are a sequence of nude yoga poses placed in symbolic locations.  The concept for the work is admittedly LeVar’s and he performs the yoga, but the imagery is mine.

BTS: Tattoo Portraits at Bolinas Beach

Here are some behind the scenes snapshots of me working at Allie at Bolinas Beach last week.  It was one of the warmest days of the year at the beach and we had a sunny and fog-free shoot.  Look for finished images from this shoot in the coming days.

BTS: More Behind the Scenes of Imprint

Here are a few more Behind the Scenes pictures from my project Imprint.

These pictures are of some SCAD students viewing an exhibition called “Shaking Hands with the Road.”  The exhibition held in May of 2010 was a two person show with myself and my friend Eliot Dudik.  The work we exhibited were from our MFA theses and the exhibition was highlighted by a book signing and release party of our newly published books.  His book is called Road Ends in Water and my work was, of course, Imprint.
