I am an artist specializing in portrait, editorial, stock, and fine art photography, and creating compelling imagery is my ultimate passion. I was raised as a dedicated outdoorsman in Missouri, and consequently the commissioned portraits and personal projects I create often demonstrate a connection to nature. As a young adult I moved to the deep south for college. In 2010 I received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design after studying at the institution’s Savannah, Georgia and Lacoste, France campuses. Also, in that year I published Imprint, my first book of photographs. I now live with my beautiful wife Cara, who is also my studio manager, and our two dogs in Petaluma, California. Going forward I hope to have a fruitful career as an artist, thinker, and visual translator of any glimmer of beauty I am fortunate enough to capture.
My commissioned portraits seek to go beyond capturing fleeting moments of whimsy to enduring photographs that engage hearts and minds for a lifetime. Often working on location, particularly outdoors, I love using lots of beautiful natural light in a documentary/photojournalist style. My hope is to approach each shoot as a collaboration with you to create a fully customized and unique piece of art. From beginning to end, I am fully dedicated to you and your portraits and personally retouch, design, or make and frame each print, Multimedia Slideshow, or album instead of outsourcing to a lab. Because of this, quality is higher and turn around times are often days instead of weeks or months.
My personal projects are centered on an investigation into the complex relationship between man and the environment. Especially how we interact with and value our environment for sustenance, sport and recreation, and even ritual. I tend to work in large documentary style projects that sometime take months or even years to complete. These projects are exhibited in galleries, photobooks, zines, multimedia presentations, and many other types of publications and venues. All of my personal work is available for commercial licensing.
